A gang comprising of two men and five women has stood trial at a court in Abu Dhabi over prostitution. The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance was told that the Syrian women and Egyptian men were detained early this year after investigations proved they were engaged in sex trade. The police had caught the women from an apartment in Abu Dhabi after the authorities were tipped off about their prostitution activities.
The Syrian women came to the UAE on visit visas, and were staying in the rented apartment where they would take men and offer sex in return for money. The women were allegedly charging men between Dh and Dh per hour for sex.
The two Egyptian men were reportedly getting customers for these women. And on some occasions, the men were driving the women to various hotels in the capital where they would meet customers and have paid sex. The men would get commission from every customer they brought to the women. The police investigations suggested that the group had collected about Dh, from the illegal business, and had remitted most of the cash back home. Prosecutors charged the group with practising prostitution but they denied the charges.
